I always catch myself anticipating, trying to predict what is about to happen, and trying to control an outcome. Whenever I feel like there is something big that is about to happen, my mind focuses in on how I can make whatever is about to happen work better.
I go through endless rounds of possible scenarios, practicing dialogue in my mind, just so I can feel prepared for the event. Only to face the moment in my life and do something completely different.
So, I’ve realized that by working myself up I am not doing anything productive. Only wasting my precious time and energy, which is all we really can control in our lives. Going through a situation in my head only gives me the illusion of control. But in reality, I have no control over what is going to happen, especially when it includes other people.
Now, this is not to be confused with mental rehearsal. This is an amazing technique athletes use in their sports and musicians use to play their instruments better. This is the mental practice of performing an act. And it helps athletes train their minds for the experience before it has happened with things like practicing different throws and plays.
What I catch myself doing is not mental rehearsal, it is conditioning my nervous system into stress by imagining the worst possible outcome and playing out what I would do if that happened to feel “more prepared”.
We cannot control everything in our lives. We can only control ourselves and our actions.
By realizing that the only thing in this life that we can control is our mind, our thoughts, emotions, and actions. We free ourselves. There is nothing outside of you that you have full control over. Therefore, you cannot expect life to go exactly the way you want it to go. You cannot expect others to do what you want them to do to make yourself feel better. You can’t wait for an outcome to feel good about yourself.
Nothing outside is in our control. And nothing outside of you controls you. Only you control you. We are fooled by the illusion that we are controlled by our environment. Making us believe that if we can fully control our environment and make it “perfect” then we can control ourselves. If everything outside you is good, then everything inside me will be good.
But we have it all flipped.
Our environment does not control us. We are the ones that allow it to affect us. You allow your outer experience to affect your inner reality.
But we are the leaders of our minds. We are the rulers of our brains and body. We are the commanders of our thoughts and the directors of our actions. Don’t be fooled into believing the illusion that you are a victim of your environment.
There is nothing outside of you that can affect you. Unless you let it.
I invite you to see yourself in your power and to step back into it.
Step back into being the creator of your world and start by being the creator of your inner environment. The governor of your thoughts and feelings. Be conscious of what you are thinking and saying, and how your words are creating your reality. How your thoughts are creating your reality. Stop worrying about what is going on outside and start learning to direct your thoughts and feelings into the world you want to live.
Start creating your life through your thoughts. Even if you don’t see physical evidence in your life that you are changing, believe that you are. Because your efforts will take you far. By simply putting in the effort to live a more conscious life and by doing the work every day. Laying the foundation for your future, every day. Your life will begin to change.
To receive a different outcome, you must perform different actions.
So, now I ask you. Is it worth it? Is it worth your precious time and energy to be worrying about what you cannot control? Trying to control something in your life just pushes it further away from your control. Because that is not what life is trying to teach you.
Life is trying to show you, every day, that you are the creator of your life.
That the only thing you have to change to get what you desire, is you.
By changing yourself, you change your life.
Until next time friends,
Camila Tracanelli
P.S. You are so much more unlimited than you could ever begin to imagine.
